33 year old, Sania Mirza is an Indian professional tennis player. She is also a former world number 1 doubles player, and has on six Grand Slam titles in her decorated career. From 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, WTA ranked her as India’s number 1 player in the entire country. Her successful career has made Mirza one of the most successful and highest paid Indian female tennis players in history.
During her notable singles career, she had has some impressive wins over the likes of Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, and Marion Bartoli, as well as former world No. 1s Martina Hingis, Dinara Safina, and Victoria Azarenka.
Sania is the highest ever ranked female player from India and peaked at world number 27 in 2007. Due to an unfortunate wrist injury, she decided to turn away from singles and focus on the doubles circuit to continue her success.
She was the first female tennis player from her country to surpass over $1 million in career earnings. Other firsts she achieved included winning a WTA singles title and winning a major title. To this day, she is still with only Indian female player to win a WTA title and the only one to reach the top 100 singles rankings.
