Sam Groth is a media personality, sports commentator and journalist, and a former top Australian men’s tennis player. He is a member of the Channel Nine Wide World of Sports team which covers the Australian Open tennis and has emerged as a respected tennis commentator. Sam has also worked as part of Fox Sports’ French Open commentary team and travelled all over America commentating World Team Tennis. Sam is a member of Channel Nine’s flagship travel program Postcards and writes a regular sports column for News Corp publications.
Prior to joining the media, Sam’s tennis career highlights included playing Davis Cup for Australia, winning the 2015 Newcombe Medal (which is awarded to Australia’s most outstanding tennis player for the year), holding the world record for the fastest serve recorded in a tournament, and reaching a career high singles ranking of 53. He has the experience of playing Roger Federer on centre court at Wimbledon and Rafael Nadal on centre court at the French Open, giving an insight to elite level sport as a commentator.
