Nicola McDermott is an Olympic Silver Medal-winning high jumper who rose to nationwide stardom at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Originally hailing from New South Wales’ Central Coast, Nicola fast established herself as a Little Athletics prodigy who would find her speciality in high jump.
A biochemistry student at the University of Sydney, she made her World Championships debut in London in 2017 before winning Bronze at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
2019 proved to be a breakout year for the Gosford-native who increased her personal best, competed at the prestigious Monaco Diamond League and qualified for the Tokyo Games.
After navigating through the challenges and disruptions of 2020, Nicola set an Australian and Oceania best by clearing 2.00m in April 2021 before breaking her own record twice, with the second of those coming in Tokyo where she won Silver following a jump of 2.02m.
