Matilda McNamara

about matilda mcnamara

Matilda is one of the brightest young W-League prospects after enjoying a breakthrough 2020/21 season for Adelaide United. Having been born in the South Australian capital, she spent some of her formative years living in the United States where she developed a keen interest in football.

Upon her return to the city of churches, she rose through the junior development ranks before ultimately making her W-League debut for Adelaide United during the 2015/16 W-League campaign at the age of 17. A desire to place greater emphasis on her studies saw Matilda put her football career on hold before returning in style by helping Adelaide City win the WNPL South Australia treble in 2019.

Her impressive performances at the heart of the Black and Whites’ defence saw Matilda rewarded by earning an Adelaide United recall for the 2019-20 W-League season. After some strong showings for the Reds in the latter rounds of the season, the 22-year-old emerged as one of the league’s best young defenders over the course of the 2020/21 campaign in which she played every minute of every game and scored her debut W-League goal.

In May 2021, the central defender’s hard work was rewarded with a call up to the Women’s Talent Identification Camp. She is also currently a member of Sydney Olympic’s NPL NSW Women’s squad.
