Ashleigh Gardner is a cricketer who plays for the Australian national side, the NSW Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League, and Sydney Sixers in the Australian Women’s Big Bash League.
Ashleigh made her debut in the Women’s Twenty20 International and Women’s One Day International competitions in New Zealand in 2017. The same year, she became the first ever Indigenous Australian Woman to play in a Cricket World Cup, when she represented her country playing against Pakistan.
In April 2018 she was one of fourteen players to be awarded a national contract for the 2018-19 season by Cricket Australia. In April 2019, Cricket Australia again awarded her with a contract ahead of the 2019-20 season. The month of June saw her named in the Australian team for their tour to England to contest the Women’s Ashes, during which she made her Test debut for Australia.
At age 22, Ashleigh is building great momentum, into what is shaping into a long, successful career as not only a skilful cricket player, but an inspirational female and Indigenous athlete and role model.
