about alex chidiac
Alex Chidiac is a 22-year-old professional footballer who plays for Melbourne City in the W-League. Widely recognised as one of the most exciting young players in Australian football, she made her Matildas debut in 2015 at the tender age of 15.
After making her W-League debut for hometown club Adelaide United in 2014 at the age of 15 she moved to Melbourne City the following season. A Premiership and Championship winner with City in 2015-16, Alex returned to United in 2016 and consolidated her status as one of the league’s premier young prospects.
She was named in the W-League Team of the Season in 2016-17 while also winning the PFA Young Women’s Football of the Year award in 2017 and 2018 respectively. A member of the Matilda’s 2018 Asian Cup runners-up squad, Alex fulfilled her childhood dream of playing in Europe by joining Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in mid-2018.
Instant success followed as she helped Atleti win Spain’s Premier Division before competing in the 2019/20 UEFA Women’s Champions League. A desire to return home following the COVID-outbreak in Europe saw Alex return to Melbourne City in late 2020.
