about alex chidiac
Alex Chidiac is a professional footballer who plays for JEF United Chiba in the WE League. Widely recognised as one of the most exciting young players in Australian football, she made her Matildas debut in 2015 at the tender age of 15.
After making her W-League debut for hometown club Adelaide United in 2014 at the age of 15 she moved to Melbourne City the following season. A Premiership and Championship winner with City in 2015-16, Alex returned to United in 2016 and consolidated her status as one of the league’s premier young prospects.
She was named in the W-League Team of the Season in 2016-17 while also winning the PFA Young Women’s Football of the Year award in 2017 and 2018 respectively. A member of the Matilda’s 2018 Asian Cup runners-up squad, Alex fulfilled her childhood dream of playing in Europe by joining Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in mid-2018.
Instant success followed as she helped Atleti win Spain’s Premier Division before competing in the 2019/20 UEFA Women’s Champions League. A desire to return home following the COVID-outbreak in Europe saw Alex return to Melbourne City in late 2020.
In September 2021, she became the first Australian to play in Japan’s newly-established women’s professional league by joining JEF United Chiba.
