Phil Smyth is a basketball legend who dominated the National Basketball League for 14 seasons as a player, and led the Adelaide 36ers to three NBL championships as a coach.
Phil proudly represented Australia at the 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympics, and captained Australia more times than other player. A four-time Olympian, six-time NBL Champion and three-time Australian captain, Phil was previously widely regarded as one of the best point guards in the world.
As a coach Phil showed the same commitment and dedication which, as a player, elevated him to the pinnacle of Australian basketball. He is one of Australia’s most decorated basketball identities having mastered the game as both a player and coach, as evidenced by his appointments as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1988, induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1997, and receiving the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
More recently, Phil has been actively involved in the media as both a commentator and guest host. He also regularly acts as an MC and motivational speaker for a variety of functions and in the operation of his own basketball academies.
